Amelia Newcomb Clinic

April 6th & 7th, 2024

Indigo Hills Equestrian 36124 CR 1, Elizabeth, CO

The Clinic was a success!

From Amelia:

The Snowman is my all-time favorite exercise to help you get your horse supple, relaxed, and on your aids, plus it really helps you improve your trot-canter-trot transitions! I've taught this exercise to many of my students and honestly, its heled every single one of them. Begin by riding a 20-meter circle in one direction, then change direction at the centerline and ride a 10-meter circle. As soon as you get back to the center line, change bend and ask for canter, going back onto your 20-meter circle. Repeat the pattern by changing direction and trotting on your 10-meter circle, then cantering on your 20-meter circle.

While I ride this exercise, I like to ride it about 3 times before changing directions. This really helps you and your horse understand the pattern and feel the benefits without drilling it.

High Plains Member Meeting

March 3rd @ 2 PM

Parker Garage - Restaurant
19420 Main Street, Parker, CO 80138

In March, we had a wonderful member meeting where we had the opportunity to connect with our members and hear their thoughts on what they would like to see from the High Plains Chapter. We also shared our vision for the High Plains Dressage Chapter in 2024/2025. It was a great experience to meet fellow members and get to each other better. And of course talk about horses and dressage.

Horse GI Tract Lecture

December 16, 2023

Mobile Veterinary Services of Wheat Ridge

The clinic led by Dr. Allison Hartman at Mobile Veterinary Services of Wheat Ridge was nothing short of exceptional. With a keen focus on the intricacies of the horse digestive tract, Dr. Hartman skillfully unraveled the complexities, shedding light on the mechanics of both the foregut and hindgut.

Attendees were treated to a comprehensive exploration of colic, its potential causes, and invaluable preventative measures. Dr. Hartman didn't stop there—she delved into the realm of ulcers, offering insights into their prevention and management. The discussion extended to supplements and their absorption, a critical aspect of equine nutrition that often puzzles horse owners.

The clinic was not just an educational experience; it was a journey into the nuances of equine health. Dr. Hartman's expertise shone as she seamlessly navigated topics, touching on metabolic diseases and ensuring a well-rounded understanding for all participants.

What made the clinic truly stand out was not just the wealth of information but Dr. Hartman's ability to communicate it effectively, making complex concepts accessible to everyone present. It was a testament to her dedication to equine well-being and the importance of informed care.

Dr Hartman was generous and informative and answered specific questions from all present about their own horses. A rare opportunity to have access to an experienced vet. I can’t wait for the next topic! A huge thanks to Andrea Osmond for all of the organizing and the snacks!" - Cindy
